MoNika Parham discovered her talent on a pure accident. In 1992 while serving in the US Air Force she received a bad hair cut, from that experience MoNika began cutting her own hair. Becoming her own first and best client friends and coworkers began to notice her talent and asked her to service them. MoNika became so popular that she decided to look into cosmetology as a career. Upon completing her service term she entered beauty school at Dudley University, Chicago in 1999, where she received her 1500-hour state requirement and got her cosmetology license. After graduation from Dudley she worked at Picture This Hair Salon, Chicago for about four months until moving to Dallas, Texas.
Arriving in Dallas, she worked at Ashanti Hair Salon as a commissioned stylist, where she picked up on becoming a more skilled and independent stylist. Once her confidence level became that of a seasoned hair designer she ran two private salon suites under the name of, All About You Hair Salon for two and a half years. Along with running the two salon suites she continued to attend several hair cutting and styling classes through Dudley in Texas.
Due to personal reasons, she decided to close her suites and relocate back to Chicago. Returning home the salon search led her to become a booth renter at Chatham Hair Salon where she worked for four years. Due to her intense love and hunger for knowledge she enjoyed attending many precision cutting classes to include completing Master Cutting at Dudley University, North Carolina. To say MoNika loves cutting would be an understatement. Hair cutting is her passion, she feels as though she’s at her most artistic level when completing a hair cut.
April 2007, she was blessed with her own salon, J. Lamaj Hair Studio, on the south side of Chicago. Along with opening her salon she became an educator for Syntonics International, an endeavor to which she fully enjoys.
Today due to our unstable and even more unpredictable economy, with great regret MoNika closed her salon. She has since returned to being an independent contractor working on Chicago's Southside. Here MoNika continues to service the women of Chicago with pride, integrity, care and professionalism. She also continues to travel with Avlon Industries teaching other professionals about the benefits and features of Syntonics International relaxer line, along with hair cutting, finishing and various styling techniques
